Elevating Educational Quality

In our modern era, the world has witnessed significant cognitive and technological advancements in various aspects of life. This has notably impacted the educational field, resulting in modern trends in teaching and learning, the most prominent of which is the adoption of the concept of total quality in education. Hence, our present age can be described as the age of quality. Quality is no longer a mere aspiration for educational institutions; it has become an urgent necessity dictated by the rapid changes in the education sector worldwide. Providing the best educational methods and strategies for students, which encompass comprehensive quality management, has become imperative for the development of the educational process with its various components.

Quality in education

is a set of principles and standards aimed at continuously improving the educational process. This has numerous benefits, such as regulating the administrative system of the school. To achieve this, quality in education must include the following:

Quality of prescribed educational materials and curricula, and scientific curricula.

Quality of administrative and pedagogical frameworks within the educational institution.

Quality of the educational institution's facilities, especially infrastructure.

Levels and outcomes of academic achievement.

Continuous development and improvement.

Organization

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) brings together experts from around the world to establish best practices that should be followed, ranging from the manufacturing of goods to management processes. ISO is one of the oldest international non-governmental organizations. Since 1946, it has facilitated exchanges and cooperation between individuals and companies worldwide. The international standards published by ISO help make life easier, safer, and better.

ISO has issued 25,345 international standards covering nearly all aspects of technology, management, and production.

ISO is represented in 171 countries, with one member per country (Algeria is represented by the National Institute of Standardization, IANOR).

Standard

ISO 21001 is a global standard specifically designed for the “Educational Organizations Management System,” commonly referred to as EOMS or “ISO Educational Quality Standard.” ISO 21001 is an independent management system that aligns with other ISO systems by following the same structural framework. It provides effective tools for institutions offering educational products and services to improve their ability to meet the requirements of learners, their parents, and all interested parties, thereby enhancing their satisfaction.

The implementation of this standard is beneficial for all types of education providers, ranging from early childhood education to higher education, as well as vocational training and e-learning services. It includes both private and public educational institutions.

Principles:

The Educational Organizations Management System is based on 10 principles:

  1. Learner Focus: Placing the student or learner at the center of the educational process.
  2. Visionary Leadership: Providing clear direction through data-driven insights for senior management.
  3. Engagement of People: Involving staff and individuals as the most crucial element for the organization’s success.
  4. Evidence-Based Decision Making: Making decisions based on facts.
  5. Continuous Improvement: Emphasizing ongoing enhancement as the system’s fundamental principle.
  6. Integrity and Transparency: Acting with honesty and openness.
  7. Process Approach: Managing activities as processes to improve efficiency.
  8. Relationship Management: Maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders.
  9. Social Responsibility: Operating with accountability towards the community.
  10. Data Security: Protecting the confidentiality and security of information.

Benefits:

The benefits of implementing the ISO 21001 system are numerous, including:

  1. Adoption of International Best Practices: Aligning with globally recognized educational standards.
  2. Improved Quality of Education: Enhancing educational processes and outcomes.
  3. Increased Satisfaction: Boosting the satisfaction of learners and their parents, exceeding their expectations.
  4. Enhanced Competitiveness: Strengthening the competitive edge of educational institutions by fostering an environment conducive to development and creativity.
  5. Resource Optimization: Reducing processes that cause waste or loss of resources.
  6. Improved Reputation: Enhancing the image and credibility of educational institutions.
